DETROIT, MICH. ~ United States President Donald Trump has ramped up talks of having the federal government take over federal elections in Democrat-led cities, mentioning Detroit and Philadelphia as the targets of this attempt due to alleged voter fraud in 2020.
Secretary of State and Democrat Gubernatorial Candidate Jocelyn Benson disagreed with Trump’s sentiment on nationalizing elections, stating that the challenges from the president are rooted in misinformation.
“When I took office, we were ranked 31st in the country for secure elections,” Benson said. “We’re now number two based on the fact that we lead other states in cleaning up our voter rolls. We lead other states in turnout, even among youth voters. So I’m really proud that even in this challenging time for elections, in Michigan, we’re on the rise.”
