LANSING ~ As U.S. politics becomes more divisive than ever, and with political violence on the rise, former Michigan governors want to see the temperatures cool.
Former Republican Govs. John Engler and Rick Snyder, along with former Democratic Govs. Jim Blanchard and Jennifer Granholm were part of a Wednesday panel in Lansing to call for increased civility in today’s political climate. The event was hosted by Michigan Civility Coalition, a group of Michigan political organizations of various ideological affiliations.
“Why do we let this go on in the political world when we would not accept it in other parts of our lives?” Snyder told WJR in regard to negativity in politics. “Think about the behavior you’re seeing in politics on any given day, particularly in Washington, and say, ‘Would that work in your work life? Would that work in your family life?’ It wouldn’t, and people wouldn’t accept it.“
