DETROIT, MICH. ~ Among the multitude of reasons a youth coach might quit on a team or sport is because of verbally abusive parents, according to last Thursday‘s poll released by the U.S. Center for SafeSport. In their first-ever national coaches survey, the study found that 46 percent of coaches have experienced verbal harassment while 56 percent of coaches who have gone through this abuse say that the mistreatment comes from the parents of athletes. The survey was conducted between October and November of 2025, covering almost 3,500 coaches across 66 different sports.
