DETROIT, MI ~ Effective immediately. Michigan high school athletes can receive NIL through appearances, endorsements, and more, the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Representative Council announced Tuesday. Michigan is now the 46th state in the country to allow NIL for high schoolers. Tuesday’s measure expands students’ ability to accept certain NIL opportunities. Before the ruling, students could only conduct private lessons and clinics. There are guardrails though, as athletes cannot accept “pay for play” deals or use any school trademarks.
