DETROIT ~ A long-standing eyesore in Southwest Detroit is finally coming down to make way for one of the city’s most anticipated developments. Mayor Mike Duggan joined community leaders and developers today as demolition crews began tearing down the vacant Southwest Detroit Hospital, clearing the site for AlumniFi Field — a 15,000-seat soccer stadium that will serve as the new home for Detroit City Football Club (DCFC).
“For decades, this vacant hospital has been the first thing people coming across the Ambassador Bridge into Detroit or up I-75 have seen as they enter this area of Southwest Detroit,” said Mayor Duggan. “Now, thanks to the vision of Sean Mann and DCFC and the support of neighbors and City Council, this site soon will be home to a spectacular new sports and entertainment venue with retail and new housing.”

Dec. 19, 2025 ~ A new chapter begins in Southwest Detroit as demolition clears the way for AlumniFi Field, the future home of Detroit City FC and a vibrant mixed-use development.
(CONTINUED) The project marks a transformative moment for the area, bridging Corktown and Southwest Detroit with a vibrant sports and entertainment destination. In addition to the stadium, plans include a 421-space parking structure, a 76-unit residential building, and retail spaces designed to energize the surrounding neighborhoods.
The development comes after a successful Community Benefits process and strong early demand from fans — nearly 5,000 seat deposits have already been secured for the inaugural season at AlumniFi Field. DCFC CEO Sean Mann emphasized the project’s community impact, noting that the stadium will not only provide a permanent home for professional soccer but also eliminate decades of blight and create new opportunities for residents and businesses.
AlumniFi, the stadium’s naming rights partner, echoed that sentiment. “This project reflects the strength of our partnership with DCFC and our shared commitment to Detroit’s long-term growth,” said April Clobes, president and CEO of AlumniFi. “We’re proud to support a vibrant, world-class destination that fosters connection and uplifts the surrounding communities.”
Construction of the new stadium will begin immediately following demolition, with the stadium slated to open in time for DCFC’s 2027 United Soccer League season.
