LANSING, Feb. 10, 2025 ~ Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is preparing to propose a 6-7% increase in the state’s corporate income tax for road project funding, according to a report from the Detroit News.
Detroit News editorial page editor Nolan Finley told WJR that he worries about how these corporate tax increases will affect Michigan businesses. “When you look at what’s happened over the last two years to the business climate here, it’s just one more blow,” Finley said. “This is a state that has to pay job creators tens of thousands of dollars, (or) hundreds of thousands of dollars, per job to locate here. I don’t know how this is going to make us more attractive when other states are cutting their overall tax burden.“
