DETROIT, Aug. 8, 2024 ~ The NFL preseason kicks off tonight with the Detroit Lions facing the New York Giants in New Jersey, following some testy joint practice sessions. Coach Dan Campbell has made the strategic decision to sit out starting quarterback Jared Goff, opting to provide younger players with valuable game time. This decision enhances the team’s focus on evaluating key backup positions, where Nate Sudfeld and Jamar Jefferson are looking to prove their worth as the second quarterback and third running back.
Player availability for this game is becoming a factor with injuries coming into play. Rookie cornerback Terry Arnold, selected by the Lions in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, is out due to injuries occurring in a joint practice on Monday, while defensive back Ennis Raikstraw is expected to participate; ultimately adding an element of uncertainty to the lineup.
