MICHIGAN, May 28, 2024 ~ Two Michigan auto plants tied to electric vehicle production are raising questions after redesigns suggest scalebacks on the number of jobs claimed by car manufacturers.
The Ford Marshall Battery Plant recently submitted plans that would reduce the project from a $3.5 billion, 2,500-job plant to $2.2 billion and 1,700 jobs, according to Crain’s Detroit Business. General Motors‘ Orion Assembly Plant in Orion Township recently drastically reduced the number of parking spaces in its site plans, though no confirmation of reduced jobs at the plant have been made. Crain’s Detroit Business Executive Editor Mickey Ciokajlo told WJR, “The softening consumer demand for EVs is at the heart of that. Both of these projects came out with great fanfare as they should, right? I mean, they’re huge projects, and they’re still very large projects, but they’re being scaled down.“
