November 4, 2026 ~ Chris Renwick, Lloyd Jackson and Jamie Edmonds are joined by Detroit News State Politics Reporter, Craig Mauger, to talk about yesterday’s elections and how they’ll affect the political landscape in Lansing.
DETROIT ~ Michigan Democrats completed a sweep of the state’s four biggest races Tuesday, strengthening the party’s influence in Lansing for the coming years. Jocelyn Benson won the governor’s race, Abdul El-Sayed defeated Mike Rogers in the U.S. Senate contest, Eli Savit won the attorney general race and Garlin Gilchrist II was elected secretary of state as voters delivered a strong endorsement of the Democratic ticket.
The victories came alongside Democratic gains in the Legislature, where the party is expected to regain control of the Michigan House while holding the state Senate. Analysts say frustration with President Donald Trump’s administration helped drive turnout, with Democrats benefiting from strong support among younger voters, independents and key suburban communities across Michigan.
