October 21, 2026 ~ An active hazmat emergency has been declared in Toledo, following a dangerous chemical incident traced back to an MC Tank facility. Marie Osborne shares the latest with Kevin.
TOLEDO, Ohio ~ Residents in North Toledo were forced from their homes late Tuesday night after a hazardous chemical release at an MC Tank Terminal facility on Progress Avenue prompted emergency officials to establish a 1-mile evacuation zone and issue shelter-in-place orders for surrounding areas. The incident, which began around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and continued into Wednesday, also led to the closure of Toledo Public Schools as crews monitored air quality and worked to contain the situation.
For many families, the emergency brought an unexpected disruption to daily life as concerns grew over potential exposure to the chemical release. Reports indicate the chemical involved was glycidyl methacrylate, an industrial substance used in plastics, paints and coatings that can cause irritation to the eyes, skin and respiratory system, while first responders and environmental crews continued assessing conditions near the site.
