October 13, 2026 ~ Chris Renwick speaks with Paul Sankey, lead analyst at Sankey Research, about diesel prices, Russian sanctions, and oil market strains.
DETROIT ~ As diesel prices remain high, many truck drivers, farmers and small-business owners are watching closely for any sign of relief. A proposed agreement that could allow more Russian diesel to reach global markets has sparked debate over whether added supply could help lower fuel costs while also raising concerns about easing economic pressure on Russia during its war in Ukraine.
For families, the issue goes beyond what they pay at the pump. Diesel fuels the trucks that move groceries, building materials and other everyday goods across the country, meaning prolonged high prices can eventually ripple through household budgets. While additional fuel on the market could offer some relief, ongoing refinery challenges and global uncertainty suggest any impact on prices may be limited in the near term.
