EAST LANSING ~ MSU football finished 3-31 against Wisconsin on Saturday after four quarters of sustained Spartan effort. The Spartans did not fail to persist, but they struggled to perform.
Coaching calls were optimistic through the game, reflecting head coach Pat Fitzgerald’s high expectations for his team. The Spartans drove on six fourth downs, but lost the ball on all but one—the lone conversion that set up MSU’s second‑quarter field goal.
MSU quarterback Cam Fancher started the second half, but did not last long. Fancher suffered a non‑contact injury and was helped to the sideline for the remainder of the game. Wisconsin opened the half with a 47‑yard touchdown run, extending its lead to 21 points and shifting momentum firmly toward the Badgers. The Spartans did not respond with explosive plays or completed drives.

Wisconsin quarterback Colton Joseph later pitched a 46‑yard pass to wide receiver Malachi Coleman in the end zone to seal the win. The Badgers finished only five minutes ahead of MSU in possession but totaled 138 more yards, meaning MSU had opportunities but not completions.
Injuries continue to shake the Spartan depth chart and have contributed to a third consecutive loss. The growing list of unavailable starters has forced deeper rotation across positions, testing MSU’s resilience as the season progresses.
