DETROIT ~ Michigan drivers continue to navigate some of the state’s busiest and most crash-prone intersections, with new data showing an increase in collisions at several high-traffic locations. The findings have renewed discussions about distracted driving, roadway design and the impact of growing traffic volumes on safety across Metro Detroit.
While roundabouts are designed to improve traffic flow and reduce the severity of crashes, some have experienced rising collision numbers as traffic increases. Safety advocates say distracted driving remains a leading cause of intersection crashes and urge motorists to stay focused behind the wheel and avoid distractions such as phones, food and other activities that can divert attention from the road.
