WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. ~ Congregants returned to Temple Israel for Rosh Hashanah services for the first time since a March attack damaged the synagogue, gathering in prayer and celebration as they marked the Jewish New Year and their long-awaited return home. The service featured the ceremonial return of Torah scrolls that had been moved to safety after the attack, symbolizing resilience and the strength of a community determined to heal.
Six months after violence rocked the congregation, worshippers filled the West Bloomfield synagogue with song, reflection and hope for the future. Religious leaders acknowledged the pain left behind while emphasizing that the return to their sanctuary represents an important step forward for a community rebuilding together.
