Detroit Lions Outlast New Orleans Saints in Overtime of First Game of Season

DETROIT, MICH. ~ In the first game of the 2026 NFL season, the Detroit Lions sent fans home happy with a 31-30 overtime win at Ford Field over the New Orleans Saints Sunday afternoon.

Detroit running back Jahmyr Gibbs led the way with two rushing touchdowns, while Lions’ quarterback Jared Goff found wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown twice in the end zone.

The defense for Detroit was on point all game long, forcing two interceptions off New Orleans quarterback Tyler Shough.

The Lions will be back in action on Thursday night in Buffalo for a primetime showdown on Amazon against the Bills.
