MINNEAPOLIS ~ Three people, including the suspected gunman, were killed and six others were injured Wednesday in a shooting at a downtown Minneapolis apartment building near Loring Park, according to city officials. Among the injured were three Minneapolis police officers who responded to the scene.
Police were called to the building shortly after 4:30 p.m. on reports of gunfire. Two civilians died from their injuries, while three other civilians were hospitalized. Authorities identified the suspected shooter as 35-year-old Carlton Neal Johnson II of Minneapolis.
Mayor Jacob Frey praised responding officers, saying, “I can’t emphasize enough how dangerous this situation was and how heroic our officers were in response. They rescued victims, brought people to safety … all while getting shot at themselves.”
