Aug. 26, 2026 ~ Attorney Todd Flood discusses Attorney General Dana Nessel’s newly released Flint Water Crisis report and what the findings could mean for accountability and the communities impacted.
FLINT ~ On Tuesday, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel released a report on the years-long criminal investigation into the Flint water crisis, explaining why no convictions were made.
The 100-page report highlighted the investigation into the 2014 switch from Detroit to the Flint River, with the river water corroding older lead pipes in the city, leading to lead contamination of drinking water. The report called this decision and the ensuing health crisis as “a man-made tragedy of epic proportion.”
Nessel launched the Flint Water Team in 2019, restarting an investigation under the administration prior, eventually leading to a one-person grand jury filing 42 felony charges against nine government officials, including former Gov. Rick Snyder. These charges were later thrown out in 2022, which the report blames on the Michigan Supreme Court for ruling against allowing indictments through a one-person jury.
