FERNDALE, MI ~ The Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Public Health and Safety and Finance committees passed a resolution this week to fund one of the last remaining Planned Parenthood clinics in the Metro Detroit area.
The funding resolution would allocate $1.5 million to keep the Planned Parenthood clinic in Ferndale open through at least August 2028 if approved by the board in an upcoming meeting on Aug. 13. The clinic received over 7,000 visitors during a one-year span from July 2025 to June 2026.
This comes shortly after Planned Parenthood announced it was closing two locations in Metro Detroit, one being in Livonia and the other in Warren. The Trump administration cut Medicaid reimbursement to the organization under the One Big Beautiful Bill passed last year, while also reducing its federal Title IX funding.
Planned Parenthood clinics provide tests for sexually transmitted infections, contraception, and other reproductive health-related assistance.
