DETROIT, MICH. ~ The Rocket Classic returns to Detroit Golf Club this week, but for many fans, the story goes beyond who lifts the trophy Sunday. The tournament has assembled arguably its strongest field ever, bringing some of the biggest names in professional golf to Detroit for one final run. Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley and Patrick Cantlay headline a field loaded with top-ranked players, turning the event into a showcase of some of the game’s best talent.
For local golf fans, it is a rare opportunity to see stars from across the PGA Tour compete on one stage. Schauffele, a major champion and Olympic gold medal winner, will make his Rocket Classic debut, while Jordan Spieth and Hideki Matsuyama add even more star power. Former tournament champions Rickie Fowler, Tony Finau and Cam Davis are also back, joining a field that features 10 major winners and more than 20 players ranked among the world’s top 50.

(CONTINUED) The timing makes the tournament even more compelling. With the FedEx Cup Playoffs around the corner, nearly every player in the field has something to play for. Some are chasing victories, while others are fighting for playoff positioning. The combination of established stars and emerging talent should create plenty of drama throughout the four-day event at Detroit Golf Club.
What makes this year’s Rocket Classic different, though, is the sense of finality surrounding it. The 2026 tournament is set to be the final Rocket Classic after Rocket Companies declined to exercise its sponsorship option for 2027, bringing an end to the event’s eight-year run in Detroit. Since its debut in 2019, the tournament has helped reestablish the city as a PGA Tour destination, attracting some of golf’s biggest names while raising millions of dollars for local charitable causes. This week, the focus will be on the golfers competing for a title, but there also will be an appreciation for a tournament that left a lasting impact on Detroit and now takes its final bow.
