MILFORD, MI ~ President Donald Trump will make a stop on Monday at a General Motors facility in Michigan, a key swing state in this year’s midterm election.
He will speak at the GM Proving Ground in the town of Milford in Oakland County, where new vehicles and auto technology are tested. The president is expected to tout his handling of the U.S. economy, particularly bolstering claims of creating jobs in the manufacturing and auto industries.
Doors to the event will open at 11 a.m.
Trump has an uphill battle to sway voters’ opinions on the GOP’s handling of the economy this midterm, with a Washington Post-Ipsos poll finding that 65% of voters disapprove of his handling of the economy, with just 33% approving. His visit also comes in the wake of a fresh round of tariffs on Canada, which caused the cancellation of a joint U.S.-Canadian celebration of the new Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor.
