ANN ARBOR ~ Warde Manuel, University of Michigan athletic director, will be stepping down from his role at the end of the calendar year following the findings of a report of the athletic department.
The probe, conducted by Jenner & Block, was conducted to investigate the actions of former football coach Sherrone Moore, along with gauging the culture under Manuel in the school’s athletics department. U-M will start an immediate search to find a replacement athletic director.
He issued a statement shortly after the news was reported: “I am very proud of all the successes and accomplishments of our athletic department over the past 11 years. We have tremendous coaches and professionals who support our outstanding student athletes every day. I am happy President Grasso asked me to stay on to work with him to implement the recommendations for continuous improvement. I promise everyone I will have more to say about my decision at the appropriate time. Forever, Go Blue.”
Manuel’s contract was set to last through 2030.
