DETROIT, MICH. ~ Detroit City FC etched a new chapter in the club’s history Wednesday with a groundbreaking ceremony for AlumniFi Field, the future home of Detroit soccer in southwest Detroit.
Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield and other dignitaries involved in the project spoke at the ceremony, emphasizing how this stadium will help tie the community together, replacing the blight that was left from the Southwest Detroit Hospital.
The future 15,000 seat stadium is projected to open ahead of the USL Championship season in the spring of 2028. The team currently calls Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck home, which only holds 8,000 seats.
Along with the new stadium, DCFC plans to construct a 421-space parking structure and a 76-unit apartment building. These developments are planned to be in the neighborhood of the stadium, where construction has started on corner of Michigan Avenue and 20th Street.
