MICHIGAN ~ Southeast Michigan is under a heat advisory from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with temperatures possibly reaching 100 degrees.
A heat index value of up to 105 is expected, according to the National Weather Service. The agency advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room and out of the sun, and checking up on relatives and neighbors.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
People are also advised to take extra precautions when outside by wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, limiting strenuous activities to early morning or evening, and taking action when they see symptoms of heat stroke.
