June 24, 2026 ~ Dr. Asha Shajahan explains the increase in e-bike injuries among kids and what parents should know about safety risks tied to speed.
MICHIGAN ~ E-bikes seem to be everywhere now as they are getting more popular among adults, teenagers, and even younger kids.
But as more people are riding them, injuries have increased too, and some doctors are sounding that alarm. One such doctor is Dr. Asha Shajahan, a Corewell Health family medicine expert, who said injuries like brain bleeds, fractures, and concussions have been appearing more in recent years among child patients at Corewell.
“The issue is that these e-bikes, they come at such high speeds, and when you have a high-speed collision, you really can’t control the device that you’re using,” She told WJR. “I think that’s the scary part, and these head injuries can be so serious and life-threatening.“
