DETROIT ~ The Gordie Howe International Bridge is close to being ready for immigration and border services, according to the Department of Homeland Security, though negotiations between the U.S. and Canada may delay the opening.
The Detroit News reported that DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said Customs & Border Protection staff are “good to go” to operate on the bridge, though negotiations between the two nations, “not within DHS that has to be resolved.” The article also stated that the bridge is “progressing well towards a spring opening.“
