IRAN ~ Israel’s military assault on Lebanon is threatening to crumble U.S.-Iran peace talks as violence rages across the Middle East, with President Donald Trump stepping in to ask Israel to pull back on its operations.
As the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran continues past its third month, Iranian officials continue to stand firm with their demand that Israel cease its military assault and occupation in Southern Lebanon, threatening to halt negotiations if Israel refuses to stop. In a Truth Social post on Monday, Trump said he spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with Trump saying, “there will be no Troops going to Beirut.” He also spoke with Hezbollah representatives, with Trump adding, “they agreed that all shooting will stop.”
However, shellfire continues to be exchanged between the two sides. Over 3,400 people in Lebanon have been killed by Israel since the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran began on Feb. 28.
On Monday, Trump told ABC News that he believes that a peace deal with Iran will be reached “over the next week.”
Earlier in the day, the U.S. and Iran traded military blows amid the tense negotiations. Iranian officials said they launched retaliatory missiles towards U.S. military sites in Kuwait after they said the U.S. violated ceasefire terms by striking military sites within Iranian territory. U.S. and Kuwaiti officials later said the missiles were intercepted mid-air.
