LANSING ~ The Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure of the Michigan legislature took up a bill this week that would amend the state’s Vehicle Code to allow more cities in the state to let golf carts drive on city streets.
The bill, introduced by Rep. Alicia St. Germaine (R-Harrison Township), would raise the population limit of cities that can opt into allowing golf carts on their public roads from 30,000 to 65,000. If a city opts in, cart drivers must be at least 16 years old, licensed to operate a motor vehicle, comply with turn-signal requirements, operate from 1/2 hour before sunset to 1/2 hour after sunrise, and ride as near to the right side of the roadway as possible.
