CHEBOYGAN, MI ~ All eyes are on Northern Michigan as heavy rainfall heightens worries of river flooding and a dam failure near Cheboygan.
The Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office made a Facebook post Monday, alerting residents between the Cheboygan Dam and Lake Huron to make evacuation preparations and create a “go-bag” of important items in case of a failure of the dam, located about an hour southeast of the Mackinac Bridge. Located on the Cheboygan River, the dam saw water reach 12 inches from its top on Monday, triggering the official warnings.
Extra pumps are also being brought to the dam to relieve some of its water levels.
