WESTLAND, MI ~ Police have arrested a teenage suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a Salvation Army bell ringer Thursday night outside a Kroger store on Ford Road in Westland. Authorities say the incident occurred just after 6 p.m. near Central City Parkway and was not a random act—the victim and suspect reportedly knew each other.
Westland Mayor Kevin Coleman confirmed the arrest earlier today, though details about the motive remain unclear. The Salvation Army expressed deep sorrow over the loss and pledged full support to investigators, while Kroger issued a statement acknowledging the tragedy and deferring questions to law enforcement. The investigation continues.
