DETROIT, July 25, 2025 ~ Lake Michigan is considered to be the most dangerous body of water in the country. Multiple factors, including strong rip currents, play in to making this lake among the most deadly in the U.S.
“Lake Michigan accounts for nearly half of the 1,350 drownings in the Great Lakes over the last 15 years,” Marie Osborne said on “Focus with Paul W. Smith. ”According to the National Weather Service, the west Michigan coastline has the most current related deaths in all the Great Lakes. “

(CONTINUED) Other than rip currents, falling off a kayak or boat without a life jacket and being washed off a pier are among other unfortunate instances that take the lives of many each year.
Some of the cities that are safe to swim at but have the most tragedies include Holland, Muskegon, and Ludington.
