MICHIGAN, July 2, 2025 ~ Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is calling on Michigan‘s U.S. House members, Democrats and Republicans, to vote against President Donald Trump‘s “Big, Beautiful Bill” out of fear of what it could do to the state’s economy and healthcare services.
The mega bill would make permanent tax cuts and increase immigration enforcement funding, among other actions, raising many concerns over cuts to Medicaid. “The bill will have a devastating impact on people’s lives, including the nearly 15,000 people who wrote in and shared their stories with my office,” Whitmer said in a press release. “Cuts to Medicaid will hurt vulnerable Michiganders most, including three in five nursing home residents, people living with disabilities, and pregnant women. The largest ever cut to SNAP included in this budget will raise the cost of groceries, increase hunger, and harm thousands of local retailers, forcing more Michiganders to go to bed with a pit in their stomach.”
