DETROIT, June 17, 2025 ~ The Tigers bounced back with a win over the Pirates at Comerica Park on the same day Javier Báez celebrated his 10th year of MLB service.
The Pirates struck first with an RBI single from Adam Frazier in the second inning. The Tigers responded immediately in the bottom half, as Wenceel Pérez launched a two-run home run to give Detroit a 2–1 lead.
That lead didn’t last long. Alexander Canario singled to right field, driving in two runs to put Pittsburgh ahead 3–2.
In the top of the fifth, Báez tied the game with a solo home run to center field, making it 3–3.
The Tigers regained the lead in the sixth inning thanks to a triple by Pérez. In the seventh, Báez homered for the second time, followed by a solo shot from Riley Greene to extend Detroit’s lead to 7–3.

(CONTINUED) Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize allowed five hits, struck out four, and gave up two earned runs. Báez went 3-for-4 at the plate, continuing his strong play. Pérez finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple, and three RBIs. Greene also contributed, going 2-for-4 with a home run.
The Tigers return to action on June 18 for the second game of the three-game series against Pittsburgh. Andrew Heaney is scheduled to start for the Pirates, while Tarik Skubal, the current front-runner for the AL Cy Young Award, will take the mound for Detroit.
