DETROIT, Sept. 3, 2024 ~ Democrats had a busy campaign schedule on Labor Day, with Vice President Kamala Harris, President Joe Biden, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz appealing to union workers in major swing states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Harris praised the labor movement in a Detroit speech at Northwestern High School and vowed to ensure workers’ right to unionize. She promoted what she called ‘the power of unity’ telling the crowd she wants to enact new legal protections for labor. She said when unions are strong, America is strong. Top Democratic campaign surrogates, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and UAW President Shawn Fain, also made Detroit appearances.
