ANN ARBOR, May 8, 2024 ~ University of Michigan President Santa Ono has been called to testify to Congress over the university’s handling of pro-Palestinian protests amid concerns about campus antisemitism that have gripped national discussion in the past few weeks.

Originally slated as a key witness for a live hearing on May 23 before the House Committee on Education and the Workforce titled “Calling for Accountability: Stopping Antisemitic College Chaos,” he will instead be required to give transcribed interviews to make room for Northwestern President Michael Schill and Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway on the panel. For over two weeks, activists on U-M’s Diag have run a Gaza solidarity encampment to call on the university to divest from Israel amid its military onslaught on the Gaza Strip that has killed almost 35,000 people.
