LANSING, April 30, 2024 ~ A new Michigan House bill is looking to muffle loud vehicles and punish those who drive with or make purposely loud vehicle modifications.

State Rep. Natalie Price (D-Berkley) recently introduced House Bill 5696, which would fine drivers for making purposely loud modifications to their cars, with police given the authority to impound and tow cars from repeat offenders. She told Guy Gordon, Lloyd Jackson, and Jamie Edmonds that, “Right now, it’s already illegal to modify your vehicle to make it have excessive noise and to drive a vehicle with modifications that are intentionally excessive. Unfortunately, there’s some language later on in the (law) that’s been interpreted by the courts as being contradictory, so when local police try to enforce these laws, they (are not) held up in court. So we are trying to clean up that language.
