MICHIGAN, March 28, 2024 ~ A Michigan education nonprofit has found shortcomings in the state’s education outcomes compared to the top-performing states.

After analyzing new data, Launch Michigan found that 7 out of 8 Michigan school districts do worse than comparable districts in math and about
70% of Michigan districts underperform in reading and graduation rates. Venessa Keesler, the nonprofit’s president and CEO, told WJR‘s Guy Gordon, Lloyd Jackson, and Jamie Edmonds, “It is a nationally competitive world, and we know a lot of Michigan parents feel like their district is doing a good job, and they might be compared to neighboring districts, but that is not who we are competing against.”
