March 21, 2024 ~ Detroit‘s Big Three automakers gained some wiggle room with the transition to electric vehicles Wednesday when the Biden administration announced new emission rules under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The new standards will aim to reduce tailpipe emissions by about 50% from the 2026 model year to the 2032 model year, but will also loosen electric and hybrid vehicle sale goals, Bloomberg auto business reporter Keith Naughton told Guy Gordon, Lloyd Jackson, and Jamie Edmonds. Before, EV’s would have to make up 67% of all new car sales by 2032, but now the EPA has relaxed to about 30% amid slow EV sales growth.
