PODCAST:

March 17, 2024 ~ The Detroit Food Academy is a nonprofit that works to inspire young Detroiters ages 10-24 through culinary arts and food entrepreneurship. Students learn from cooking delicious healthy meals for friends and family, to developing artisan food projects from scratch to deliver to the market. Executive Director Kiki Louya joins WJR Senior News Analyst Marie Osborne to talk about how students learn and transform their ideas into reality.

Capuchin Soup Kitchen Executive Director Brother Gary Wegner also joins the show to talk about the 12th annual Bocce with the Brothers on Friday, March 22. Wegner outlines the dozens of programs at the soup kitchen that aim to feed and empower thousands of Detroiters each year. Founded in 1929, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen started at the onset of the Great Depression and continues to provide approximately 800 meals per day from three locations. The soup kitchen provided nearly three million pounds of food in 2023 through the Capuchin Services Center food pantry.
