LANSING, March 12, 2024 ~ Legislation to address school safety concerns and funding is currently stuck in committee, with Democrat and Republican lawmakers bickering over when to bring the bill to the State House floor.

The legislation, which was introduced in February 2023, is meant to improve public school safety and expand access to mental health resources following the 2021 Oxford High School shooting, but has yet to move from the House Education Committee. Republican House members tried to force the legislation out of committee in February, but Democrats rejected this effort, claiming the bills need more time to fine-tune.
