MICHIGAN, March 5, 2024 ~ In an attempt to thwart power outages during rough weather events, Consumers Energy will begin a trial run of burying power lines in six Michigan counties.

The Michigan Public Service Commission recently approved the company to bury about 10 miles of power lines across Allegan, Genesee, Iosco, Livingston, Montcalm, and Ottawa counties. The trial will test the feasibility of burying power lines, with the practice aiming to prevent lightning, snow, ice, strong wind, falling tree limbs, and other weather hazards that knock down power lines.
