MICHIGAN, Jan. 18, 2024 ~ Despite 2024 being a pivotal election year, chaos continues to rage within the Michigan Republican Party as uncertainty lingers over who is the party’s leader.

After 40 members of the party’s state committee met to vote out Michigan GOP Chairperson Kristina Karamo from her position on Jan. 6 amid ongoing financial and organizational struggles for the party, the noted election denier has refused to recognize the vote as legitimate by claiming the meeting was not official under the party’s bylaws. A follow-up meeting with different committee members on Jan. 13 saw about 60 members vote to keep Karamo as leader.

Now Oakland County Republican Party Chairperson Vance Patrick is declaring his intention to take over as the party’s leader, coming shortly after former U.S. Congressman Pete Hoekstra announced his bid for the position.

We must now elect a chair that will work to unify the party, offer transparency, and build the infrastructure needed to win this November,” Patrick said in a Tuesday statement.
