Metro Detroit Doctor, Pharmacist Recieve Prison Sentences in Drug Cases

Jan. 18, 2024 ~ A Michigan doctor and pharmacist were sentenced Tuesday on charges of illegal drug sales in a U.S. district court.

Dr. Scott Cooper of West Bloomfield was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to illegally prescribing controlled opioids to “problem patients,” while Livonia pharmacist Zaman Alshafey was sentenced to three years for selling prescription cough syrup to drug dealers, reported the Detroit Free Press. Their crimes took place from the mid-2010’s to the early 2020’s.
