The Inside Outside Guys ~ Ensuring Chimney Safety for a Warm and Cozy Home

From The Detroit News | By Ken Calverley and Chuck Breidenstein

DETROIT, December 21, 2023 ~ From the earliest cave shelters to the grand castles of Europe, fire has been the primary source of warmth for thousands of years.

Even as building science continues to advance, wood-burning fireplaces remain a common feature in homes and continue to be used on cold nights and romantic evenings. However, it is crucial to prioritize chimney safety to prevent potential tragedies during the winter season.

Regular chimney inspections and cleaning of the flue are essential for maintaining chimney safety. Over time, creosote, a byproduct of burning wood, can accumulate inside the flue, posing a fire hazard.

It is highly recommended to hire a certified professional chimney sweep to inspect and clean your flue annually. By doing so, you can minimize the risk of chimney fires and ensure proper airflow.
