DETROIT, MI, Dec. 24, 2023 ~The Detroit Lions defeated the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Eve (30-24) at U.S Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota to clinch the top spot in the NFC North and a spot in the playoffs. Detroit’s Jhamyr Gibbs and Amon-ra St. Brown combined for over 200 total yards to lead the Lions to their victory.

Gibbs had 100 total yards and two touchdowns against the Vikings. Gibbs is just the third rookie in Lions’ history to have 1,000 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns in a season. The only other Lions that obtained the milestone are Barry Sanders and Billy Sims. Gibbs started the year off relatively slow; he didn’t score a touchdown and saw minimal action in the team’s first six games. Once running back David Montgomery was ruled out with a groin injury after Detroit’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Gibbs became a much more reliable option.

(CONTINUED) St. Brown has been a top receiver in the NFL all year. St. Brown became the only Lions player ever besides Herman Moore to have consecutive seasons with 100 receptions. Former Lion’s Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson never had consecutive 100 reception seasons for Detroit. St. Brown racked up 106 receiving yards and a touchdown in the Lions win over Minnesota.

With the win, the Lions will host their first-ever playoff game at Ford Field. The Lions don’t have an opponent yet, with several teams still in the hunt for a playoff berth. The Lions (11-4) face off against the Dallas Cowboys (10-5) at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas next Saturday at 8:15 p.m.
