LANSING, Dec. 14, 2023 ~ Gov. Gretchen Whitmer proposed a $25 state rebate plan Tuesday that would favor consumers who purchase electric, hybrid, and union-made vehicles.

If approved by the state legislature, the MI Vehicle Rebate plan would give a $2,000 tax rebate for new electric and hybrid vehicles (on top of a $7,500 federal tax credit for EV purchases), a $1,000 rebate for new internal combustion vehicles, and an extra $500 rebate if the vehicles were made with union labor. Whitmer said the plan is meant to make vehicles more affordable for Michiganders and “spur” auto manufacturing following the UAW strike on Detroit‘s Big Three automakers.
