DETROIT, Nov. 29, 2023 ~ General Motors CEO Mary Barra announced Wednesday that it would be greatly scaling back funding for its self-driving vehicle subsidiary Cruise after one of its taxis was involved in a pedestrian accident.

Cruise suspended its self-driving operations nationwide last month following the California Department of Motor Vehicles suspending its license to test self-driving cars in San Fransisco, where a woman was hit by a regular car that pushed her into the path of a Crusie vehicle, dragging her underneath the car for about 20 ft. More details will be revealed soon about what the scale-back from GM will look like, but Barra said development at Cruise will be more “deliberate.
