DETROIT, Oct. 3, 2023 ~ Union negotiations with Detroit‘s big three automakers are showing signs of forward motion, with UAW President Shawn Fain announcing a major win Friday for the union.

Fain said General Motors agreed to cover its battery manufacturing plants for electric vehicles in the union’s national agreement, and that the company agreed to a 23% wage increase over the life of the contract. GM, along with Ford Motor Co. and Stellantis NV, also avoided new targeted strikes from the union, with about 25,000 UAW workers currently striking.

We are winning. We are making progress,” Fain said in the Friday update.
