DETROIT, Oct. 3, 2023 ~ In the heat of the UAW strike against the Big Three automakers, General Motors and Ford Motor Co. were forced to initiate layoffs.

GM and Ford announced cuts to hundreds of autoworkers, affecting about 500 positions throughout the two companies. The GM layoffs in the Ohio and Indiana factories are said to be a “ripple effect” of the strikes at GM Lansing Delta Township and Missouri facilities. Ford claimed their layoffs were a consequence of the strike at the Chicago assembly plant.

As a result, the number of those laid off in connection to the strike is now at more than 3,800.
