DETROIT, January 18, 2023 ~ Michigan native and music enthusiast Senator Debbie Stabenow followed through with her promise to get federal funding for Detroit’s Motown Museum, with $10 million of the state’s $1.7 trillion spending bill going into the institution’s expansion.

Music is in the Senator’s blood, there’s no question about it,” said Motown Museum Chairwoman and CEO Robin Terry to 760 WJR’s Paul W. Smith. “She has been a champion of the museum for years.”

January 18, 2023 ~ Motown Museum Chairwoman and CEO Robin Terry talks to Paul W. about the expansion of the Motown Museum and she says they are grateful for additional federal funding to continue the project. She also says they are grateful to the entire Detroit community for its support of the multi-million dollar expansion.

(CONTINUED) She was always recognizing that Hitsville is a national treasure…she has always believed that it should garner, as it should, the support that it is receiving…This gift was her way of saying ‘I said I would do it and I did it.’”

The money allowed the museum to push past its original fundraising goal of $55 million. Unfortunately, inflation has raised the price of expansion to $65 million dollars, and Senator Stabenow does not think additional federal help is likely.

According to Terry, the museum will continue to fundraise the remaining money until construction is complete.
