HOLLAND, MICHIGAN, March 23, 2022 ~ LG subsidiary LG Energy Solution will invest $1.7 billion into expanding its EV battery production plant in Holland, Michigan, according to an announcement from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).

The expansion is said to create 1,200 manufacturing jobs, as well as “quintuple” the facility’s component production.

That’s a significant win,” said MEDC CEO Quentin Messer to 760 WJR‘s Paul W. Smith. “These type of things show that all of Michigan is, and will be, increasingly more and more competitive. In the state that basically made inventiveness and innovation something that touched and changed lives … I think this allows us to make sure in the 21st Century, we continue to hold that position.”

Below, hear MEDC CEO Quentin Messer and Paul W. Smith talk on the investment, and what the expansion will mean for Michigan’s economy going forward.
